Let’s face it, most people spend more of their awake hours at the office than they do at home throughout the work week. To the BizStream team, our workspace is like our home away from home. We work here, we eat here, we hang out here, a few of us have even been known to rest our eyes here. Our team members are more than coworkers; they are friends, work-out partners, and some are like family. This fun-loving, crazy, work hard-play hard culture is partly cultivated by the many unique BizStream get-togethers and events that are offered throughout the year.
Here’s what went down in 2017:
Although sports may not be everyone’s “thing”, BizStream team members enjoyed an afternoon off from work to kick off March Madness. Patty Matters food truck was on site serving up some killer burgers and fries to order, and MUGS was slinging beverages. Basketball games were live streamed, a game or two of poker went down, and countless foosball games were played throughout the afternoon! The was even a St. Patrick's Day themed photo booth!
You don’t need to know how to golf to attend this fun-filled four-person scramble. BizStream team members met in the morning at Western Greens Country Club for a shotgun start and from then on they tried their hardest to actually make through all 18 holes. It is a day to get outdoors, kick back, relax and swing clubs. BizStream provides golf and lunch for team members and the opportunity to get a little crazy, have a lot of fun, and make some great memories.
When it’s summer in West Michigan, you need to take advantage of the the warm weather, beautiful lakes, and outdoors. That is exactly what Team BizStream does with our annual backpacking trip. This year’s outing was held at Nordhouse dunes in Ludington, where team members and their families could hike out for the day or even camp overnight.
Everyone met at the trailhead for a quick photo op, then hiked for about a mile to claim their rustic camping spot. It was a relaxing day of hanging out and playing in sun, sand and water.
This year’s company picnic was a little different than in the past, the venue this year was Michigan’s Adventure! The BizStream team and their families met at Michigan’s Adventure for a fun-filled day of roller coasters, water rides, and food. Everyone was able to explore the amusement and water parks on their own, however, we all met up at one of the private pavilions for lunch, desserts, and drinks provided by BizStream. We couldn’t have asked for better weather or a better location for this year’s amazing, exhausting and fun-filled company picnic.
BizStream employees, friends, and family gathered at BizStream for a little fun and friendly competition at BizStream’s Annual Chili Cook-off and Harvest Festival. Everyone arrived with a pot of their unique homemade chili in hopes of claiming some Amazon.com gift cards, and of course, bragging rights. Whatever your preference: traditional, chicken, vegetarian, spicy or mild chili, it was bound to be there. Festive spirits, desserts, fresh-popped popcorn, chips and loads of Halloween candy were also noshed on throughout the afternoon.
In the Kid’s Craft Zone, there was a multitude of activities for the little ones including a photo booth, pumpkin decorating, sand art, giant checkers and tic-tac-toe boards, and many Halloween crafts. Foosball, darts, and a little Rock Band were also enjoyed by both the young and old alike.
After sampling as much chili as one could possibly handle, votes were cast and tallied for the best traditional and non-traditional categories. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place were awarded in both categories. Not everyone left with a prize, but we all left with full bellies and thankful hearts for a wonderful afternoon at BizStream with our families and friends.
Geeky Little Holiday Party
The team gets in the holiday spirit with our annual Geeky Little Holiday/Ugly Sweater office party. On the Wednesday, before the long Thanksgiving weekend, work concluded around noon, and the festivities began. BizStream team members and their families were treated to a spread of appetizers, desserts, and festive drinks. Everyone donned their best “ugly/geeky” Christmas attire for the ugly sweater competition. The adults socialized as the kiddos were entertained with many Christmas crafts. We all gathered around the office Christmas tree where every employee added their personalized ornament to the tree, afterwards the kids busily finished hanging ornaments and decorations.
This year’s Christmas party was once again held at the beautiful Revel Center in Grand Rapids. Upon arrival, BizStream team members and their significant others were able to draw from a selection of restaurant gift cards and also choose a numbered candy cane for the much loved, white elephant gifts, to be distributed later in the evening. We enjoyed a tantalizing display of appetizers and open bar during social hour. A photo booth with various props was well utilized throughout the evening. Dinner, catered by Applause Catering, consisted of several eclectic food stations; a chicken fajita/Mexican station, Korean BBQ station, and an Traditional BBQ station.
After dinner, team members gathered for the white elephant gift exchange. Starting in numerical order, team members were able to choose and open a wrapped gift, all provided by BizStream, or “steal” from another employee. Lots of geeky shirts, Star Wars and Superhero memorabilia, and funny little gifts were opened and stolen.
Star Wars Movie Outing
A much anticipated office event is when a new Star Wars movie hits the theatre! We’re realistic and we know productivity is questionable under these circumstances. So, on December 15th, we concluded work early and headed out for lunch and a movie in our finest Star Wars gear. After taking in The Last Jedi, team members gathered at a local brewery for more food, great brews, and of course, A LOT of Star Wars discussion.
These events are a great way to for our team members to take a break from their work, get out of the office, and get to know their co-workers on a different level. As we enter a brand new year, we are excited to see what new memories will be created! What is your favorite work event? Share in the comments below!
