Last Saturday BizStream attended Beer City Code
, formerly known as GR DevDay. It’s an event described as “A software conference for software developers of all types”. We’ve always been a huge advocate of this event because we love to be involved with anything that draws positive attention to the West Michigan tech community, which is why BizStream was, once again, happy to be a Platinum Sponsor
. What was interesting about this year was the effect the rebranding had on attracting new attendees and speakers. It wasn’t long before we realized we were talking to people from the other side of Michigan, or Ohio, and even as far as Atlanta, GA.
The event organizers did a great job of showing off the Grand Rapids beer scene after the event by offering beer tours to the speakers and those interested in buying a beer tour pass. The beer tours were given by Grand Rapids Beer Tours
(GRBT). GRBT bussed groups to different breweries, including The Mitten Brewery Co.
, Harmony Hall
, and Creston Brewery
. This gave speakers from out of town a unique opportunity to experience Grand Rapids! After talking with the attendees and some of the speakers, we found a common theme in what attracted them all to this newly branded event: the love of beer and code
Love of beer and code is something Team BizStream can totally appreciate. We got in on the action by offering a $50 gift card to Founder’s Brewing
to anyone who could guess the closest number of bottle caps (without going over) we had stored in the R2-D2 we keep around the office. Steve Grunwell was the lucky winner for guessing 1,280 out of 1,348. One of the most repeated questions we were asked was, “How long did it take us to drink all that beer?” The answer: “About a day or two”.
We had our own Alli Treman
speak at the conference. Her presentation, “A Web for Everyone: An Introduction to Accessibility” highlighted the importance of making websites ADA compliant. A number of our own team members attended various presentations in order to grow their skillset. We also had many team members excited to run the BizStream booth for their chance to represent BizStream and to network with the other attendees.
It’s always a great time hanging out with the BizStream crew, learning new things and meeting new people. We’re looking forward to supporting and participating in next year’s event. We are definitely excited to see how Beer City Code will continue to grow!
